Governors Island: Quickroots/Raices Movedizas

2019

This iteration of Raices Movedizas was realized in collaboration by Myrna Lazcano, Mauricio Higuera (et al.), Pablo Mariano Diaz, Christian Hincapie, Clare Kambhu, Anderson Luna, Siara Mencia, Mandy Messina, Johnathan Payne and Maya Strauss. A reception on August 24 included an outdoor installation of A-Museum with art by Mauricio Higuera along with music performances by Heidy Animas, an installation by Running for Ayotzinapa 43 in collaboration with Blanka Amezkua, and picnics in the park.

During our inauguration on August 24, 2019, Myrna Lazcano, along with the activist group “Running for Ayotzinapa 43,” brought bananas and oranges which we placed all around the porch railing. Myrna gave an inaugural speech and Mauricio helped to translate.
After the speech, Heidy sang “Gracias a la Vida/Thanks for Life” by Mercedes Sosa. All present held hands in gratitude to everything that lead to being there, in that moment.
